In 2021, the chances are you’ve heard of TikTok, the short video app that’s climbed its way to the number 1 social media spot…

In an effort to keep up with the popularity of TikTok, Instagram released Reels during the year. Reels are short videos, in a similar style to TikTok.

Now both Instagram and Tiktok are essential parts in most digital marketing plans, but Instagram have said that video- primarily Reels, are the future for businesses on the platform. And, due to their growing importance, we thought we would put together a quick guide on creating a basic Reel for your business.

Do your research

Jump onto similar businesses or competitors Insta profiles and check out what they’re doing, look for trends in your industry or general trends you can make relevant to your business.

Hint: find Reels on a profile by pressing the clapperboard with the play logo on the tool bar directly above the photo grid.

Keep It Simple

If you’re new to the Reel game, don’t stress- the key is to keep it simple. You can edit within the Reel function, adding music, filters, text and more, but until you feel more familiar with the process, basic short videos are fine. Or alternatively, you can use a range of easy-to-use apps to edit your vidoes, such as InShot and Videoleap.

Make It Educational

The best thing you can do is make your Reels educational (and entertaining if you can). If you know your target market well, you should know what they find relevant and can base content around this. Use Reels to educate about your business, products, brand story and staff.

Use Hashtags

Like a regular Insta post, you create a caption for your Reel. Stick to a similar style caption and still use relevant hashtags, as this increases the chance of people finding your Reels on the platform.
